We will be having our first trip to the pool for a workout this Wednesday. You will need to bring a PE approved swimsuit and a towel. When we plan these days though you should still bring your full running gear, in case we can not get in the pool for some reason. Also, there are a number of people who are looking for mileage targets the next couple of weeks to put a wrap on their summer miles. It is important that we not just start doing long runs every day. However, a very effective and healthy way to get some extra miles is to run a two-a-day every now and again. The pool day on Wednesday is a perfect opportunity for that. Wednesday morning I will be at the athletic doors to run at 6:15. We will be doing some light maintenance miles that will give you a boost in the miles, and give you some extra time spent in the elevated cardio state that is the backbone of distance racing, without beating up your legs. Coupling an easy run with the pool day will give you two workouts worth of development, with only one maintenance mile run on the legs. Immediately after practice we will hold our full-team parent meeting. Please plan on being in attendance. We have 24 people on the roster this year, and this will be a great opportunity for all parents to meet one another and for us all to get on the same page to ensure a successful season. I will have everything ready to go when you arrive in the cafeteria, so we should be able to get out of there in about 30 minutes. |
